EXAMPLE 004 / CASE STUDY

From alumni network to Life After the Swoosh.

The challenge wasn't only funding or volunteering. Members needed to see themselves differently: not as recipients of a community, but as its builders.

The Mess

What looked like the problem.

6453 was entering a new chapter. A founder-led organization needed to become more community-led while solving two practical problems at the same time: sustainable funding and meaningful volunteer participation. Both could easily have been presented as asks.

The Reframe

A community built for members → a community built with members.

The Work

Make the new frame tangible.

We reshaped the story around participation rather than obligation. A longer presentation was reduced from roughly fifteen slides to five-to-seven essential moments. Dense explanation became singular ideas. The screen and the speaker were given different jobs. And the story culminated in a simple invitation: “The next chapter of 6453 won't be built for you. It will be built with you.”

What Changed

A different conversation became possible.

Funding and volunteering could now sit inside a larger idea: belonging is participatory. The audience wasn't being asked merely to subscribe or fill a role. They were being invited to help author what the community became next.

The Bigger Learning

People respond differently when an ask is reframed as identity and agency. Sometimes the narrative isn't there to explain the strategy. It is part of the strategy.
